A New Creation

We have been so busy since I last shared here and with subsequent posts I plan on catching up a bit on our recent goings-ons.  ;) In fact, with my ”busyness” I failed to realize until today that Mother’s Day is THIS Sunday, as in three days from now. A few weeks back I pinned a cute idea on Pinterest for Mother’s Day cards. I hate it when I’m prepared, yet unprepared at the same time! Unfortunately, it seems to happen quite often. Hopefully, the grandmothers will forgive us when they receive these cute cards in the mail a day or so late.

The original idea I pinned can be found here and has great step-by-step instructions. This particular example shows an adult making the prints, but I thought what would be cuter than my sons little hands?

I started out by cutting some cardstock to 8 x 10 pieces, so the butterflies can easily be framed. The boys then helped me pick out the paint colors to use, with just a little guidance. :) Using inexpensive acrylic craft paint made for easy clean up.  The process went fairly quickly by painting JD’s hands and making all his prints first. Then while we finished the wings with Jr.’s handprints, JD ran around the living room, flapping his “wings” and pretending to be a butterfly. Oh, and he made sure to paint his tummy as well. Hence, why the boys are shirtless. ;) I’m sure you can imagine how many times I said, “Don’t touch anything!” during his fluttery performance.  :)

I used a circular sponge dabber to create the butterfly bodies.

Three sets of hands created this lovely butterfly.

I thought the finished product came together quite nicely. I plan on hanging mine in the laundry room not only as a memento of my babies’ chubby fingers but as a nice reminder of a verse found in the second book of Corinthians. Butterflies do not start off as gorgeous creatures but as lowly caterpillars, and being a new creation through Christ is just as beautiful of a transformation.

”Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

2 Corinthians 5:17

Springtime Crafting

Crafting is one of my favorite hobbies and its even more enjoyable on a rainy Saturday evening when my boys are watching March Madness. (Sidenote: college football begins in 157 days… :) )

It’s a week before Easter and I decided to make some decorations. Continue reading »

A little gravy…

Well, it’s been about three weeks since my last post and obviously there have  been A LOT of changes for our little family in that time. That last week in the old apartment, I was not motivated to cook or clean! For someone who vacuums religiously everyday, it was quite the departure from my normal routine. Continue reading »

Lego Heads

This past Christmas Legos invaded our home. Both boys enjoy playing with Legos and knowing their Daddy and Uncle’s enthusiasm for them, I guess they will never stop thinking little plastic bricks are pretty darn cool.  Junior delights in  the building process and JD does what three year olds do best – he’s an expert demolisher. Morning Reflections

Morning Reflection

This morning I woke up before 5 AM. Anyone that knows this family, KNOWS we are not exceptionally early risers. However, I couldn’t get back to sleep and besides thinking about the laundry I needed to get caught up on, I began to think about my friends. Even more specifically, thanking God for my friends and loved ones.

In the last few days, several of my friends have reached out to me in a special way. Whether it was through an email, blog post, Facebook, text, or pictures in the mail, its just nice to know that they were thinking of me. Sometimes, you wonder how someone knows that you needed that uplifting message or thought but somehow friends do.

Moving across town, across the state and across the country in the last ten years has been stressful and tiresome in so many ways. However, this morning, I was reminded that if it weren’t for those moves I would not have met some of the most special people in my life. I’m not one of those people that moves to a new area and all of a sudden has five new best friends. But I would rather have the true friends that I can count on, even if they live in New York, Alabama, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia… you get the idea. :) Unfortunately, I’m usually the one making a friend for life, then moving away.  Physical distance is annoying but thank goodness for all our modern conveniences to stay in touch!

I also have an awesome group of online friends and we chat nearly everyday. These other moms and I have a lot in common with having  babies (our “babies” are now three years old!) the same age but we also enjoy a great friendship that goes beyond the kids.

I could not write a post about friendship without mentioning how thankful I am that I married my best friend. I also feel very blessed with a wonderful relationship with my parents and extended family. I talk with my parents most every day and I’m so thankful we only live a few hours away from each other now.

I’m not planning on setting my alarm for five tomorrow for more reflection  but I am always thankful to have such a great support system of friends and family!

My Very First …

I could not have been more surprised  to read my dear friend, Debra Mayhew’s blog post yesterday! Debra is a published author and always brings a little sunshine into my life with her blog. It’s quite inspiring to see Debra balance motherhood, marriage and also nurture her own love of writing! Since I am rather new at this entire blogging experience, I am so honored to accept the Sunshine Award.  What a special feeling to know that someone else enjoys my writing and pictures. It was also a wonderful encouragement for me to make more time to blog and for that I am very thankful. :) Debra also passed along the sunshine to her sweet daughter, Katherine. Check out Katherine’s Mission and be encouraged by this lovely young lady’s endeavors. Her work and talents are amazing!

Along with this award I get to have fun sharing some of my favorite things.

  • Favorite Color – Always green, to go with my eyes ;)
  • Favorite Animal – I love most all animals… but at the moment I’m in love with chickens. One of these days I’ll have a little hen house and fresh eggs every morning!
  • Favorite Number – 32… yep, this number changes every year. ;)
  • Favorite Drink – An ice-cold Coke.
  • Facebook or Twitter – Facebook. Its cheesy and can be full of drama, but it really is a nice way to keep in touch with people!
  • Your Passions – My relationship with God, being in love with my husband, my boys and my dear family and friends….I can also get pretty passionate about just being outdoors and enjoy gardening, fishing, hunting and capturing all of God’s creation with my camera.
  • Giving or Getting Presents – I love giving presents. I love surprising people too, and I am the WORST at keeping a secret so I get a real kick out of actually surprising someone.  But who doesn’t like getting something as well? ;)
  • Favorite Day – A sunny day. A day spent with my family.
  • Favorite Flowers – ALL. Fresh flowers make me happy. I really love wildflowers.

I’m going to pass along the Sunshine Award today to my friend Megs. Check out her blog here. I know her life gets pretty chaotic at times, but it certainly makes for some interesting stories! :)

I really enjoyed doing this today! Thanks again to my wonderful friends and readers for your encouragement!

We Fit Right In

Last week my Mother-in-law came down for a week-long visit. While she was here it was almost like a “stay-cation” for the boys and me. One of the best parts of homeschooling is being able to take time off from our usual studies and have mid-week field trips! :) Unfortunately, this is my husband’s busy time at work so he missed out on a lot of the fun. We had a lovely day at the beach, shopping, a bowling outing and probably one of the most enjoyable days was spent at the Jacksonville Zoo. Continue reading »

Feeding the Hungry

Meet Henry.

Henry is hungry.

 Henry

The last several days have been dreary and chilly. The boys and I had barely stepped outdoors and we were all going just a little bit stir crazy. To combat impending craziness, (one of us was oh so close to being there!) we decided to do something worthwhile and feed our hungry neighbors. Aren’t they lovely? Continue reading »
